When it's time for a break from the books, there's always plenty to do around here, on campus and off. Major and local retailers and restaurants and a 20-screen movie theatre can be found in Ashland or just south along Route 1, and Richmond offers many more options, including the popular  shopping district. The athletically inclined can take advantage R-MC's , or the hiking, biking and waterways of the  system in Richmond.

History

The central Virginia region has seen some of the nation's most important historical moments, from the founding of  to "Give me liberty" speech in St. John's Church to  and  battles. Randolph-Macon itself was founded in 1830, celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2005. Three buildings on the campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
